David Crockett Davis Genealogy David Davis (my great-great-grandfather) came to America from Wales with 2 brothers (and their families), Nathanial, and Mahlon. The family religion was Presbyterian and it seems that the family had something to do with the beginning of the Presbyterian church in Wales. All three brothers moved to different part of the country. David Davis and his wife, Lucy Gardiner (a red headed Irish woman) went to Terre Haute, Indiana. David Crockett Davis (pictured above) was born and raised there in Terre Haute. He had 7 other brothers and sisters. David Crockett Davis and his two older brothers fell in line with the "Campbell Movement." These brothers were then members of the Christian Church (instead of Presbyterian), more specifically Disciples of Christ. Susan Matilda Wilson Genealogy Susan's (my great-grandmother) parents were James Bryan Wilson (3/9/1824-1/27/1893) and Amanda Jones Wilson (9/25/1825-11/1/1896). James & Amanda had 12 children. James Bryan Wilson's father and mother were Samuel Kirby Wilson and Mary Bryan Wilson. Mary Bryan was a niece of Rebecca Bryan, who married Daniel Boone. (Due to Daniel Boone's fame, many historians documented his genealogy which makes it easier to track our lineage on the Bryan side.) Mary Bryan's grandparents were Joseph Bryan and Aylee Bryan. Joseph's father and mother was Morgan Bryan and Martha Strode Bryan. Mary Bryan's father was either Samuel or John (these records are missing, possibly due to the battle at Shallow Ford). Morgan Bryan is my great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather. We know that three older brothers of Rebecca were hunting companions of Daniel Boone. You can go back before the 1540's by following the Morgan Bryan tree. The following links give more information about Morgan Bryan, Martha Strode, "Bryan Settlement" and the Shallow Ford map. Samuel Kirby Wilson came to America from Scotland as a "bound boy" to earn passage. After working off passage obligation, he married Mary Bryan. David Crockett Davis and Susan Matilda Wilson had 8 children, Dora Davis, Enola Ann Davis, John William Davis, Mary V. Davis, Lydia Bell Davis, James David Davis, Louie Albert Davis, and Lucy Francis Davis. John William Davis (Will) married Rosa Ann Stevens on 11/8/1899. These are my grandparents. Most of this information is compiled and provided by Lew Arter Davis, son of Louie Albert Davis who is the son of David Crockett Davis and Larry Baker, son of Evert Emry Baker who is the son of Iona Evelyn Davis, who is the daughter of John William Davis, who is the son of David Crockett Davis (pictured above). |
